Fairfax Library Advocates Meet with Senator Chap Petersen

Fairfax Library Advocates Marcia McDevitt, John Hanley and Kathy Kaplan met with Virginia State Senator Chap Petersen this morning to discuss possible legislation to designate public libraries as essential services.  Also discussed was legislation to remove the population cap on calculating Virginia State funding for libraries. Fairfax County Public Library is capped at 600,000 and is the only library system in the state that is capped.  Our current population is over one million.  The two legislative proposals were proposed by the Library Committee of the Fairfax County Federation of Citizens Associations.
